Open or Closed Case?
Open Theism continues to be a hot issue in American Evangelicalism, and is likely to contine to be in the year to come. John Sanders and Clark Pinnock had their Evangelical Theological Society memberships challenged at the society's annual meeting last year.
Now, Sanders appears to be on the way out of his current teaching position, not because he holds to Open Theism, but because he is so visible in his Open Theism.
I hope to follow this up over the holidays with a more extensive look at Open Theism and some of the problems I see with it, for those of you who are unfamiliar.

There are two issues that need to be addressed. First, I think that we need to address whether open theism is compatible with Evangelicalism. Second, we need to see if open theism is true. I don't see why open theists cannot be Evangelicals, yet I believe they are absolutely wrong. I look forward to your future posts on the topic in which I have vested interests. (I have posted my criticisms of open theism on my blog.)
I am puzzled why Huntington is forcing Sanders out over this issue. William Hasker holds very similar views, yet he is heralded as their distinguished professor. There is serious disparity at Huntington.
Thanks for posting the link to your posts, John. I'd missed them before.
I suspect that the singling out of Sanders here is related to the ETS membership challenge. I wouldn't be surprised to find pressure from donors or influential alumni at work, though that's pure speculation on my part.
Maybe that school is singularly fortunate. As for me, I'm surprised they aren't grateful they can find bright and learned scholars who still actually believe in God at all, and actually care enough to work their way into such details.
I look forward to your future thoughts on the subject.
